About Ratljost

Ratljost is a film wedding photographer and videographer based in the United States. With over 10 years of professional experience, he photographs and films weddings exclusively on analog mediums.

With a calming, laid-back, presence he aims to create photographs and films that evoke strong, nostalgic emotions. Returning the viewer back to the very moment, while demanding new emotions for the moments not yet experienced. This approach is only captured with a true documentary approach that appreciates the art of design and deep human connection.

As a career wedding photographer and filmmaker, his goal is to create a laid-back, effortless experience. In addition, a timeless, unique, piece of art for every couple that truly celebrates and documents the essence of their celebrations. One that is created and curated with their specific vision and relationship in mind.

Artist Statement

Ratljost is an uncommon Icelandic word that translates to “enough light to find your way”.

As your wedding photographer and videographer, my mission isn’t just to document your wedding day. Rather, provide you with a curated collection of images and films that bring you back to each moment. Moments of light that would breathe life into the ordinary, the mundane. Something as simple as a plant cascading over a table, veins and new leaflets exposed in the sun, or capturing a photo of loved ones exchanging laughter and the subtle clasping of their hands together that signifies their connection.

We overlook these insignificant moments every day. But the truth is, they become the triumphs of our journeys, substantial moments overshadowed in the business of life. It’s not until we cut through the noise do we expose the work of art that’s been there all along. This work of art is within you, and I want to help you bring it to light.

I photograph and film weddings on film to better capture wedding celebrations in their truest, most authentic forms. The act of film photography takes away the modern philosophy of more is better – perfection is king. Rather, replacing it with the idea that not every moment is perfect, it is treasured, full of purpose and happened exactly the way it was meant.

Likewise, an encouragement to embracing the moments, sights and colors as they truly were in our own eyes – without the need of over processing, emphasizing, or creating false narratives. This allows the narrative to remain true, bringing us back to the core of it all – simply remembering the moments as they truly were.
